Starting off with tools that is going to help you a lot:

1. Connected Paper: Graph view for citations and stuff.

2. Consensus: Search engine for research.

3. Zotero: Reference management.

4. Sioyek: PDF viewer, focused on technical books and papers.

5. Overleaf: LaTex in browser ; a lot of templates.

6. Obsidian: You know, notes and stuff.

7. Paperpilot: AI Paper explainer.

8. Emergent Mind: AI Research assistant. KG also. Trending papers.

Lifecycle of the project:

In order to do this, be very good with source control and stuff. CLI makes your life easier if you are in the deliberate practice of doing it regularly.
